<I am a US Navy Vet.  I served for 11 years.  I have been teaching for 7 years.  I was a teacher at Enchanted Hills for 6 and 1/2 years.  This is my first year here at Rio Rancho Middle School.

(April 18 - 28, 2017)

Tuesday - Friday (4/18 - 4/21):

After having finished PARCC for Language Arts/Literacy, and moving into Math, we will be meeting every other day with extended class periods. We begin our small group work by looking at a young girl's race with prosthetics in Aimee Mullin's personal narrative, "A Work in Progress." We will see how she was able to cope with her obstacle, and how this might relate to our final Performance-Based Assessment.




(March 6 - 10, 2017)

Monday - Tuesday:

We finish our presentations and close out unit 4 with a section on reflections. We begin looking at unit 5 as we look at obstacles that might get in the way of success. We will look at "Against the Odds", a story about Sully.

 

(February 27 - March 3, 2017)

Monday - Wednesday:

There will be morning and afternoon sessions for the three parts of the SBA Science testing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  This only applies to the 7th grade.

We will take a look at the original 1972 The Lorax and the remake from 2012 to complete a creative writing assignment on the environment, an attempt at an alternate ending, and a compare and contrast essay.

Thursday - Friday:

We will be working on our group work Performance Task: The Debate. We will be preparing the groups to debate a variety of topics related to the environment, conducting our own debate, and then debating the other Language Arts classes. An outside party will determine which class is the winner.

 

(February 21 - 24, 2017)

Monday:

President's Day - Enjoy the day off

Tuesday - Wednesday:

Each student will complete our final draft on our Performance-Based Assessment using our outlines and rough drafts addressing the prompt: "Are the needs of people ever more important than the needs of animals and the planet?" This will be completed in the computer lab working in Google docs.

Thursday - Friday:

Monday:

We are meeting in the computer lab for another independent learning session. Our story this time will be "The Story of Victor d'Aveyron, the Wild Child."

Tuesday - Wednesday:

We will complete the unit with "Eagle Tracking at Follensby Pond." This is a photo gallery that deals with the bald eagle population.

Thursday - Friday:

We start working on our Performance-Based Assessment in which we will review our evidence and break down the prompt: "Are the needs of people ever more important than the needs of animals and the planet?" We will begin writing our arguments the following Monday.

 

(February 6 - 10, 2017)

Monday - Tuesday:

We look deeper at poetry analysis from our poetry collection as we analyze diction and tone as well as the speaker of the poems. We will also have a comprehension quiz over the poems on Tuesday.

Thursday and Friday:

He-y Come On Ou-t! short story - After a first and then close read of this story, we will look at irony and punctuation.
